Shavin’ the Mo

In News
During the month previously known as November, millions of moustaches are spouted around the world, raising awareness and gaining donations to further the research and knowledge of men’s health problems, specifically prostate cancer and depression.

The North Sydney Harbourview Hotel lent their support to the Mo Bros at Laing O’Rourke Australia who spent the month cultivating their moustaches, specifically Grant Black, Mission Zero Co-ordinator – Southern Region, of LOR, who has been growing his handle bar moustache since 1997!

While shaving may not seem to be a big deal to most people, at 56 years of age Grant’s Movember shave was the second time since age 19 that he has been clean shaven; and only his second full shave since 1997.

Not only was the Harbourview Hotel happy to donate towards Grant’s “the Mo’s Got to Go” campaign, we happily provided the Hotel foyer for the big shave on Monday, 1st December. What a difference a shave makes!

A great cause and a great campaign – which the Harbourview was proud to be a part of – and it continues to grow Momentum.

Following is Mr Black’s thank you letter to the Harbourview team….

Firstly, I would just like to say thanks to the management of the Harbourview for your most generous donation to my “The Mo’s Got to Go” campaign.

By most standards, men are not very good at looking after their own health. Many believe “It’s not going to happen to me” or “I’m too busy to get sick” – so campaigns like the Movember make it fun and easier to discuss men’s health issues, not only amongst men but with the wider community.

The reason why I am so passionate about this, is that I lost my father to cancer when I was 19. I know firsthand about the devastating effects that cancer can have on a person and their family. With this in mind, I wanted to do something personal to help raise awareness, and what would be more personal than to shave off my mo for the cause?

Thank you for your contribution and for making the shave fun by hosting it at the Hotel. I have been staying at the Harbourview since 2008, so it’s great to think we have developed such a relationship that you would want to help me with my efforts for such a great cause.

I would also like to thank you and your staff for the way you look after me when staying at the hotel.
