The Ultimate Guide to Cycle Through the Heart of the Brisbane City

Local Events
29th April 2024

Picture this: a nice, warm sunny day with the Brisbane River glistening under the sun and you riding a bicycle down the riverbanks exploring what makes Brisbane so special. Well, we’ve got you covered. Our hotel provides bicycle hire service that you can simply get from the hotel reception. Once you’ve got the bicycle sorted, we’ve pulled together a route and list of stops you’ll have to check out during your adventure. Strap in your helmets, and let’s go!

1. Brisbane Powerhouse

Leaving from View Brisbane, take your bicycle south towards Teneriffe and marvel at the old-school industrial styled buildings and apartments. This historic suburb is where warehouses and factories were located back in the early 1900s. You’ll come across the famous Brisbane Powerhouse, formerly a power station which has now been repurposed into an arts and cultural hub. If you’re here on a Saturday, pop in to check out the markets and grab some local goodies!

2. New Farm Park

Located right next to Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm Park is Brisbane’s biggest and most popular park. While you’re here, you can see a sneak peek of the city skyscrapers which is what makes the park so pretty. You’ll find flower gardens scattered throughout the park and if you’re in the right season, you’ll get to see them bloom. If you have some time, we recommend grabbing a coffee from New Farm Park Coffee Hut and relax on the grassy area before heading to your next destination.

3. Felons Brewing Co.

A Brisbane classic, you wouldn’t want to miss this iconic pub while you’re visiting the city. As you make your way north from New Farm Park, you’ll get to marvel at the historical Story Bridge with the city behind it. It’s a view that even locals can’t get enough of! Once you have reached Felons, have a quick beer or lunch in the outdoor area while you enjoy the live music they have on daily. This bar is huge so take your time and explore the area!

4. City Botanic Gardens

Heading back south, you’ll bike through Eagle Street where high-rises, lively bars and world-class restaurants are located. You’ll eventually reach City Botanic Gardens, a green oasis situated at the central CBD where you can see a wide collection of tropical and subtropical plants. Not only plants, if you love to birdwatch, then this place is a haven for you as the garden is home to a variety of birds. Ride around the garden and you’ll forget that you’re in Brisbane CBD!

5. South Bank Parklands

Last but not least, South Bank Parklands is a must visit especially for those who are travelling with family. Cross over the Goodwill Bridge towards South Bank and you’ll discover the best of Brisbane. With 17 hectares of space right next to the river, the park features a swimming pool, a man-made beach, a playground, a ferris wheel and countless Food & Beverage and retail shops. There are so many paths that you can bike on, from the riverside with amazing views of the city skyline, or smaller paths that weave in and out of the park. We recommend taking your time here!

How to get back to View Brisbane

If you still have energy in you, you can ride your way back to the hotel in Hamilton. However, worry not if you’re feeling a bit exhausted after a whole day of biking! Simply make your way to the South Bank Ferry Terminal and catch the ferry back to Bretts Wharf Ferry Terminal which is a short 8-minute ride back to View Brisbane.
