The World’s Best Bartenders are Headed Straight to Sydney

Local Events
7th May 2024

Just when you thought cocktail hour in Sydney couldn’t get any better, this tidbit of great news hit the scene: the annual Diageo World Class Bartender of the Year Global Final is set to hit Sydney in 2020.

Now entering its 11th year, Diageo World Class has steadfastly shifted the conversation around cocktail culture one competition, festival, and program at a time, bringing us the best bartending from around the world year after year.

It’s of little surprise to use that Australia’s produced not one, but two winners since the competition’s inception: Tim Philips-Johansson from Sydney’s very own Bulletin Place took the crown in 2012 and Orlando Marzo of Melbourne’s Lûmé won in 2018. Alex Boon, who is the bar manager at Melbourne’s Mjølner, came in second to Bannie Kang from Singapore’s Antidote in this years finals. Suffice it say that Australia has quite the line-up of cocktail connoisseurs.

Sydney World Class 2020 includes a week of challenges that make up the competition itself, as well as a host of events, collaborations, tastings, pop-ups, and bartender-centric experiences that will color the city with equal parts fun and flavor.

Full details have yet to be announced, but you can count on us at View Sydney to have your back with the spot to stay when World Class comes to town.
